Joostenberg The Fairhead White Blend 2018 Case

Made from organically grown vineyards on Joostenberg Estate in the southwestern corner of the Paarl region, South Africa. Climate is Mediterranean and soils are a combination of decomposed granite and clay shales. Only estate-grown vineyards were used. • 18 year old Roussanne planted in clay rich soil. • 29 year old, dry-farmed,Chenin Blanc planted in clay-rich soil. • 18 year old Viognier vineyard, planted in rocky, granitic soil.

Every year we make a small batch of white wine named after Joostenberg’s current matriarch and gardener extraordinaire, Gillian Fairhead. This wine honours the women of Joostenberg whose substantial efforts, in a male dominated society, have often been unrecognized. The core of the wine is old vine Chenin Blanc and the blending partners are the more exotic Roussanne and Viognier varietals.
